Romania's National Liberal Party (PNL) will begin talks with the rival Social Democrats (PSD) to end weeks of political stalemate that follows the ousting of Prime Minister Florin Citu on October 5.
The PNL voted 48 votes to 22 to begin talks with the PSD after the collapse of its last coalition, with the USR party led by Dacian Ciolos, which resulted in the ousting of Citu and the fall of the government.
Between them, the PNL and the PSD will comfortably be able to assemble a government, but the decision has angered both opposition leaders and members of the PNL.
Neither the PNL nor the PSD have commented publicly on the negotiations after the details of the vote were leaked to Romanian media.
