The electronics behemoth Samsung has taken its second major step into the world of the metaverse and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in the space of a week, unveiling a new temporary store in the virtual world of Decentraland (MANA).
In an official post, the firm noted that it had made the announcement at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada – and that its store would be named Samsung 837X. The company called it “a ground-breaking metaverse experience adapted from the company’s flagship New York City location.”
The name of the Decentraland store is a nod to Samsung’s American flagship bricks-and-mortar store in New York – whose address is 837 Washington Street, Manhattan. The virtual store will operate in Decentraland for a limited time only, but the firm wants to create a crossover with events at its physical flagship outlet.
It teased “mystical quests” that would be “leading to exclusive NFTs.” It also noted that a “live mixed reality dance party” would take place in both the real and virtual worlds. At the 837X’s Customization Stage, visitors would be able to “attend” the party, which will be headlined by the DJ Gamma Vibes. The latter will be performing at the New York 837 store, with the performance simultaneously taking place in the Decentraland space.
There was a further crypto twist as the firm noted that it would operate a Sustainability Forest in the virtual venue, in conjunction with Veritree, a Cardano (ADA)-powered climate control platform that hopes to plant 2.2 million trees by the end of the first quarter of 2022.
Visitors will also be able to check out the latest Samsung CES news at the virtual store’s Connectivity Theater.
