The London Metal Exchange has put out a discussion paper on the possibility of banning aluminum, nickel and copper sourced from Russia from being traded or stored within the LME system.
The exchange said the LME marketplace could be used as a “market of last resort” by Russian producers as firms move to self-sanction and possibly refuse Russian-sourced metals. A flood of Russian metal could undermine the LME’s role as the key exchange for metal price discovery.
