Buckingham Palace has announced that Queen Elizabeth II has died.
A statement on the royal website says she died peacefully at Balmoral Castle on Thursday afternoon. Earlier in the day the palace said that doctors were concerned for her health and that the monarch was being kept under medical supervision.
