The governor of the Bank of England said on 11 October that pension funds have only three days left until its emergency bond-buying scheme ends but privately briefed some lenders that the bank could extend it the programme if necessary.
Some lenders were told the bank was prepared to stretch the bond-buying scheme past the 14 October deadline, the Financial Times reported, if market conditions demanded it, three people briefed on the discussions told the FT.
