Australia’s opening batter David Warner has grabbed a stunning one-handed catch to dismiss Dhananjaya de Silva in the opening ODI against Sri Lanka. The left-handed opener is a class fielder and he once again showed the world why he is considered a gamechanger on the field.

On Tuesday, Australia are up against Sri Lanka in the first ODI of the five-match series at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka won the toss and elected to bat first.

The openers Danushka Gunathilaka and Pathum Nissanka proved their skipper’s decision correct by putting up a solid opening partnership of 115 runs off 118 deliveries. However, both batters failed to convert their start to a big total and fell after completing their respective fifties.

Once the openers were gone, Australia tried to tighten their grip by getting more wickets. At the same time, Sri Lanka were looking toward Kusal Mendis and Dhananjaya de Silva to put up a solid partnership.

David Warner derails Sri Lanka’s batting with a jaw-dropping catch

The home team was 132/2 after 25 overs as Kusal Mendis and de Silva were trying to go through the middle overs while keeping the run flow intact. The left-arm spinner Ashton Agar came to bowl the 26th over of the Sri Lankan innings.

After giving two singles on the first two deliveries, Agar bowled two dots to de Sliva on the next two deliveries. Trying to keep the scoreboard going, Dhanajaya de Silva stepped out on the 5th delivery and chipped the ball over the infield.

However, David Warner, who was placed at the mid-on swiftly moved towards his right and timed his jump to perfect to pluck out a one-handed grab. The wicket derailed the Sri Lankan innings as they were reduced to 134/3.

Sri Lanka did manage to complete the recovery as they posted 300/7 in 50 overs courtesy of a brilliant knock from Kusal Medis (unbeaten 86 runs off 87 deliveries) and a late cameo from Wanindu Hasaranga (37 runs off 19 deliveries).

At the time of writing, Maheesh Theekshana dismissed David Warner for a duck as Australia are 8/1 in the chase after 2.3 overs.
