Thrissur: The Government Medical College Hospital here has come under scanner following lapses in conducting the post-mortem of a man killed in a road accident. The body of a man was handed over to his family and taken back again to conduct the post-mortem.

As the incident made headlines, health minister Veena George called for a probe into the matter.

Wadakkanchery native Yusuf’s body was taken back for post-mortem minutes after releasing it to his family.

The officials from the hospital contacted Yusuf’s family with the help of the police saying that the body should be returned for post-mortem. Interestingly, the family got the call when the religious rituals prior to the funeral were progressing.

Yusuf was admitted to the medical college hospital on June 8 after sustaining severe injuries in a bike accident.

Yusuf passed away on Sunday morning following which his body was handed over to his family without conducting a post-mortem. Realising the mistake, the hospital authority approached the family with a request to return the body.

Later, the family handed over the body to the hospital for post-mortem. Following the dramatic events, the family received the body and performed the last rites for Yusuf.
