Ricky Ponting says Pakistan won’t win T20 World Cup 2022, know why? The T20 World Cup 2022 is just a few months away and the internet has been abuzz with the chatter revolving around the coveted tournament. The cricket experts and pundits have been asked every now and then to put forth their predictions and whom they see as the potential winners of the coveted tournament in Australia.
In the same pattern, Ricky Ponting, the two times World Cup winner and former Australian skipper, has expressed his views on the topic during his recent interaction with ICC.
In the show, The ICC Review, Ponting was asked about his views on Pakistan and its probability of reaching the final of the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia to which the former Aussie cricketer replied that the team is heavily dependent on their number one batter Babar Azam.
“I saw him [Babar Azam] up close and personal a couple of years ago out here in a Test series against Australia and I said it then, I thought the sky was the limit for this guy as far as Test match batting (was concerned) and, if anything, he’s probably got better and better in the last couple of years,” said Ricky Ponting.
“If Babar doesn’t have a great tournament, I don’t think they can win.”
Ponting reckons Pakistani openers and new ball bowlers are the main pillars of success for the team in the recent past.

“Their openers are very important and their new-ball bowlers are very important, but that role of the spin bowler in Australia might be a little bit more difficult with wickets that probably won’t give them assistance.”
However, former Pakistani cricketer Waqar Younis thought the T20 World Cup 2022 to be Pakistan’s good chance to win the title.
“We stand a really good chance of doing well at this World Cup,” Waqar Younis told ICC Digital.
He further reiterated that Pakistan’s batting is excellent and the pitches will aid the batters.
“The pitches in Australia are generally very good batting pitches and Pakistan do have good batters who can really play well in these conditions,” he added.
