Police warn over calls from scammers posing as cyber cell officials

Palakkad: Kerala Police has warned people to be cautious if they receive calls from people duping as officials from cyber cell. The police have found that people are receiving suspicious messages and calls from individuals posing as officials from cyber cell offices, cyber crime police stations and others.

The person posing as officials of the cyber police contact individuals claiming they have done suspicious activities on the internet or committed a cybercrime. Police warned that people should avoid sharing bank details, contact details, address proofs and other documents during such calls.

Further, authorities said that if an official from cyber police department contacts you, they are duty bound to inform name, official address and the purpose of the call. If they fail to provide these details, you could collect this information from the caller before answering any queries. If found suspicious, dial 112, notify the incident, or contact a nearby police station. The scammers are creating fake telephone numbers and using them to deceive people by posing as government officials.

Further, the contact details of every police station and official in the state are available on the official website of the Kerala police.
