Thiruvananthapuram: The surging controversies and frequent incidents of skirmishes between KSRTC staff and passengers have become a constant headache for the management. In a month, KSRTC receives at least 400 complaints from passengers over misconduct of staff. In certain months, the management had issued as many as 50 suspension orders addressing the complaints.

Reportedly, 80 per cent of the complaints are being formally filed at the control rooms and offices of station masters here. The issue will be solved with a warning at depot level for minor complaints.

Such unfortunate incidents are often caused by issues in salary, financial constraints, and hostile working conditions availed by the staff. They are also tormented by the attitude of certain passengers, who accuse them for the current plight of KSRTC.

Most of the KSRTC staff find the working conditions unacceptable as they are highly educated with graduate degree or post graduation. Even after spending many years in the department, they are unable to cope up with the situation.

The management’s decision to adopt single duty system also adds to the distress of the staff. By introducing the single duty system, the employees have to work for six days a week.
