Kochi: The central and state investigation agencies have agreed to join hands to fight the alarming rise in drug-related incidents among students in Kerala. The project named ‘Unaru’ (Be awake) is a combined initiative of the Narcotics Control Bureau, Customs, Kerala Police, and Excise.
It is the first time various departments are joining hands to combat drug-related issues. Indian Medical Association and Indian Pediatrics Association will also be a part of the project.
The plan will be set in motion by mid-November. In the initial stages, the project will be implemented only within Kochi city limits. These would be introduced in every district in a phased manner.
The schools can inform the authorities about their issues through email. Doctors, counsellors, and others will conduct awareness classes in schools. The project also aimed to motivate students to adopt extra-curricular activities.
