Jurgen Klopp Delivered A Quirky Verdict On His Liverpool Future After The Reds’ Horrendous Start To The New Season

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool was once again denied a win after Brighton walked away with a point from their 3-3 draw against the Reds in the Premier League at Anfield. Moreover, both the teams had a chance to bag all three points, after the Seagulls went 2-1 up in the first-half, and Liverpool took a 3-2 lead in the second. But at the end it was a thrilling stalemate, as it was the second time this season that Liverpool failed to win a league game at home.

While the form of their team has them worrying, Liverpool fans were further sent into a panic mode after Jurgen Klopp appeared to admit that he might leave the club if he fails to reverse the situation. Klopp has only penned an extension at the Merseyside club earlier this year, which keeps him in charge till the summer of 2026. However, the German himself now feels doubtful whether he will be able to fulfil the term.

Liverpool were once again sluggish in their defense as they have been since the start of the season, going down 2-o inside the first 20 minutes. Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has come under immense criticism for his poor defending was again at the fault for Brighton’s opener, failing to mark Leandro Trossard. It was the courtesy of the Belgian’s hat-trick that the Seagulls came away with a draw.

On the other hand, with just 3 wins in 9 games in all competitions Jurgen Klopp himself came forward to admit that his future is uncertain at the club. While the Premier League has already witnessed the axing of three managers, with Chelsea firing Thomas Tuchel, Bournemouth sacking Scott Parker and Wolves’ Bruno Lage the latest victim, many are now betting their odds on Klopp. Meanwhile, talking about his contract extension and his current situation at the club, the Liverpool manager while speaking to Sky Deutschland said of his future:

“It [the contract extension till 2026] came as a surprise and we didn’t slip into a phase where you ask yourself: What will you be doing in 2024? You know the business as well as I do: this would have happened all along. Especially now that it’s a bit jerky. I’m still in the right place at the moment, one hundred percent. And if not, then you have to end it. It would be stupid if you didn’t do that. But everyone involved doesn’t see it.”

That is a damning assessment from Klopp, who has been in charge of the club since 2015. He may have won it all at the club, leading them to their first league title in 30 years, landing them a sixth Champions League title alongside four other trophies, Klopp is finding it difficult to bail out his team from the current crisis. Moreover, Liverpool’s record £85 million signing Darwin Nunez too has failed to settle in at the club, further adding to the woes of the 55-year-old.

Liverpool hierarchy however has shown no intention to give their gaffer the sack and remain fully trusted in him to turn around the situation. The Reds next face Rangers in the Champions League, where they have picked only one win from two games. Klopp will have to break the code to bring a change in fortunes at the club, as this month holds 8 more fixtures for them, with Arsenal, Manchester City on the cards.
