Rajasthan Royals’ all-rounder Riyan Parag has admitted that he doesn’t deserve a place in the Indian team at the moment and there are many deserving candidates ahead of him. After the conclusion of the Indian Premier League 2022, the national selectors are focusing on giving more opportunities to the youngsters.

With the upcoming T20 World Cup in sight, the national selectors picked the youngsters, including Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh for the South Africa series and now Rahul Tripathi has also received his maiden national call for the Ireland tour. Meanwhile, the exciting all-rounder from Assam, Riyan Parag, is still too far from the reckoning of a place in the Indian team.

Now, Parag has opened up about his chances to represent India and admitted that he has to do much better to be considered for the selection.

“I will have to win six-seven matches in a season to be selected” – Riyan Parag

“Winning matches (for my team). I did that in a couple of matches, but that’s not enough. If I can win six-seven matches for my team in a tournament only then I will be in the reckoning. Right now, even I won’t feel good if my name comes up in the probables (list) for the Indian team. I don’t deserve it right now. In the coming season, my confidence will rise if I can guide my team to more victories,” said Parag in a conversation with Sports Tak.

Riyan Parag appeared in the IPL final for Rajasthan Royals this season. He managed to score only 183 runs, including one half-century. However, he was ever so lively on the field and grabbed 17 catches during the competition.

Talking about his performance in the mega league, the Assamese all-rounder admitted that he is not happy with his performance.

“Definitely happy with my batting position. I am not happy with the way I have batted though. I want to own that 6-7 spot. If you look around, only MS Dhoni’s name will come to your mind as someone who has established the role of a finisher. Approaching that, I am trying to learn and hopefully will be able to implement all my experience from next year onwards,” Riyan Parag concluded.
