WWE SmackDown star and a former two times WWE World champion Drew McIntyre who is also a former two times WWE Tag Team Champion recently talked about his match against Roman Reigns at Clash at the Castle which was for the WWE Undisputed Universal Heavyweight Championship and he discussed his defeat at the event.
Indeed it was one of the best matches of the night but ultimately the Intercontinental championship match between Gunther and Sheamus stole the show. Majority of fans thought that Drew McIntyre had a huge chance of finally dethroning Roman Reigns since the event took place at Europe.
Drew McIntyre Reflects On His Defeat At Clash At The Castle
Roman Reigns is the WWE World Champion for over two years now and he has been undefeated since. But as WWE had two separated World championships for two different brands, there was at least one opportunity to build another world championship parallel to Roman Reigns. But at WrestleMania 38 WWE decided to merge the two World Championships, and now Roman is the only WWE World champion.
Merging the World titles limited the opportunities for the WWE stars even more. Roman Reigns does not even make appearance regularly. Since WrestleMania 38, he defended his title only three times. Fans were really frustrated to see Roman Reigns working more like a part time champion.
At Clash at the Castle, Drew McIntyre went on to challenge for the Universal title. Most of the fans rooted for Drew since he would definitely be a better and defending champion who would appear regularly. The overall build up of feud was in favour of Drew. But once again, Roman won, and titles are still merged. So, it does not look like there is enough hope for a different champion before WrestleMania 39.
Drew McIntyre who is also a former two times WWE Tag Team Champion recently spoke to Ariel Helwani from BT Sport where he talked about his match against Roman Reigns at Clash at the Castle which was for the WWE Undisputed Universal Heavyweight Championship and he discussed his defeat at the event. He said;
“I dreamed of this the past few years, I talked about it the past few years. It’s here, I’m in this match. My goodness, look at this video, look at this crowd and my entrance, and look at the way they reacted when Roman came out and look at the ups and downs through the match. That’s what it’s about in our industry is emotion, making people feel something on a deep, deep level, and they really thought I had it. That’s where I’m very disappointed that I wasn’t able to pull off the big one, but we’ll get there.”
“I feel like when it’s appropriate, its gonna pop up. It is a little slower, but some of the lyrics in there feel very appropriate to my journey and what I intend to do with Roman. He’s always been my Kryptonite, he’s always found a way around Drew McIntyre, be it back in the day when I first came back, he always had my number by himself.
“When I found my true self, he found his true self. Turns out his true self is listening to a bunch of yes men and letting his head get big. When he comes against a legitimate challenger like a Drew McIntyre or a Brock Lesnar, he throws everything and the kitchen sink or new family members at them so he can keep hold of those titles. But it can’t last forever.”
