Thiruvananthapuram: A man from Thiruvananthapuram was sentenced to eight years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 for abducting and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.
A fast-track court in Thiruvananthapuram convicted Lal Prakash (29), a Nettayam native, for the crime against Class 9 on the pretext of love.
Non-payment of fine will invite another 1-year and six months jail term, the verdict noted. Judge Aaj Sudarsan also ordered the person to pay the fine to the survivor.
The incident related to the case happened on May 3, 2013. The minor was abducted and sexually assaulted at the house of convicted person’s friend. Further, the girl was not allowed to contact the family or leave the house.
Meanwhile, the family of the survivor lodged a police complaint. Two weeks later, the girl managed to contact her mother by phone. After locating her, the family, along with a police official, rescued the child from the house.
